What dog lives the longest?

The lifespan of a dog:

There aren't any absolute scientific formulas that can quickly determine the average lifespan of a dog, but most dogs remain your cuddly friends for around a decade.

Research has indicated that larger dogs have a life expectancy of around 7 to 10 years, and relatively smaller dogs have a lifespan of 13 to 16 years.

Some dogs with the most extended lifespans have been known to live around 20 to even 25 years. Putting that in perspective, 20 years old equates to about 140 years old in dog years! It's an incredibly long lifespan for a dog!

Smaller breeds of dogs:

The smaller dog breeds tend to live the longest. Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, Yorkshire terriers, Lhasa Apsos, Toy Poodles, etc., are some of the species who generally live the longest, with these dogs averaging a life expectancy of up to two decades. This is longer than the lifespan of a doggo which is around 10 to 13 years on average.

Everyone has a favorite dog breed; however, a lot of thinking needs to be done before you decide to get a specific type of dog. Unfortunately, pups being cute is not the only factor you need to consider. Dogs live for ten to thirteen years on average, with this lifespan depreciating as the dog's size gets bigger. Smaller dogs typically live longer than larger ones.

Chihuahua:

Chihuahuas may be the smallest of the dogs, but they can boast of being one of the longest-living dog breeds, mainly because they are immune to serious genetic illnesses.

Most of you might associate Chihuahuas with being carried around in purses and handbags of celebs and movie stars. They are sweet, cute, and sassy dogs that can be a little possessive and territorial around their house, which could probably make them a little challenging for households with children. Chihuahuas don't require much exercise.

Chihuahua lifespan:

Chihuahuas are one of the dogs with the longest life expectancy. They are also, perhaps, one of the most miniature dog breeds. They live an average of around 15 to 20 years. The longest living Chihuahua recorded is a 20-year-old doggo known as 'Megabyte.'

Some people have also said that Chihuahuas can live long mainly because they are not vulnerable to severe illnesses. Chihuahuas are full of spirit and are intelligent and bold. These small dogs are highly devoted to their humans, especially kids and are extremely possessive. Chihuahuas require only a little exercise because of their small body size.

Healthy lifestyle:

Size and specific dog breeds are not the only factors that determine the life expectancy of dogs. There are various other factors that you, as a dog parent, can control that might affect the lifespan of your pup. For example, excellent veterinary care and a healthy lifestyle are two essential things to keep in mind for your dog. To put it simply, as long as your dog receives quality care and love from you, it has a higher chance to live longer regardless of its breed and size.
